2016 Goals!

Hello Designers and Hello 2016!

We have a few goals that we have set for ourselves this year and we want you to be fully aware because you will have the chance to receive awesome discounts and more!

Our first goal we will accomplish is our traveling showroom. John Lester will be traveling up and down the east coast and as far west as Texas to show off our amazing custom furniture and our Lester Furniture line of beautiful pieces. A bus on the outside and a creative showroom on the inside! We will inform you when the bus is complete and when we will be in your area. Our hopeful deadline for the traveling showroom is late Spring of 2016 but keep an eye out during Spring Furniture Market in High Point NC. There is a possibility you may spot our traveling showroom on the streets of High Point and you may be able to get a first look! If you have any suggestions on what we should name our wonderful traveling showroom bus, please send them over! We love your participation and your creativity!

Our second goal we will accomplish is our CATALOG! We already have the catalog template completed, we are just ready to fill it in with beautiful pictures of our beautiful Lester Furniture Line. The catalog will be filled with tons of information on our company and of each product, along with an upholstered photo of most or all of our furniture. With that said, we have already started to build and upholster furniture to be photographed and then sold to you at a great discount! Our showroom and catalog furniture pieces will be discounted between 30%-50%. We will be working on this over the next 4-6 months, so we will have a total of 80 pieces of furniture upholstered in a light cream, beige, or white fabric and ready to be placed in your clients home. We will be updating our “Ready To Ship” section on our website along with our social media as pieces are completed and photographed, so be sure to check back frequently over the next few months for completed furniture.

Once the catalog is complete, we will of course be sending you the new and improved catalog nicely packaged with a few more goodies that will hopefully be helpful to you.

We look forward to a great 2016 of accomplishments and business with our wonderful designers!

Letter from John Lester: Upcoming changes and additions for 2015

Dear Valued Designers,

As we move into 2015, we are excited to share with you some of the changes we are  working on. I would like your opinion on these changes, as well as further suggestions to make working with us easier and more enjoyable.

First, we have an addition! We have built a traveling showroom! I know this sounds funny, but it has actually turned out great. It is a small bus that has a great design on the outside and the inside looks just like a showroom with heat and AC to stay comfortable.  We will be traveling monthly to different areas of the U.S. We will inform you of the days we will be in your area and if you would like, we can stop by to show you what is new and for you to see and sit on our furniture. We also welcome your clients to come and sit while we are there.

Second is another addition! We are developing a new line that may be more affordable for your customers who are not ready for high end, custom upholstery. We are not sacrificing quality to give you a lower price. The main change will be the cushions and some key points of internal construction. With this line, a club chair will be between $200-$300 less than our custom furniture we are making now. The only changes that will be available with this line is to upgrade the cushions. If any alterations need to be done to the dimensions, it will have to be upgraded to a custom order.

Our third addition is a small fabric line. The fabric is mostly solids at a very good price to designers. We are able to buy as a manufacturer and get the best price and we are passing that on to you. You can then choose from one of our fabrics for either furniture line or you can send us your COM.  We are simply wanting to add options for our designers.

And lastly, we are offering slipcovers! We will be making slipcovers for a select few of our pieces. If you buy one of the pieces that come with this option, you can then order a slipcover at any time! If you reorder a slip cover in the future, we will be confident that it will fit just like it did when it was new.

I hope you like the additions and changes we are making AND will allow us to visit you at some point in upcoming year. If you have any suggestions or anything you would like to see us to add or not add, please feel free to tell us, even if you think it may be bad. I cannot make the company better without your input.

Best regards,

John Lester

Post High Point Market

Hello Designers!!

I hope everyone had a fun and safe trip to High Point Market!

This Fall Market we were in a new showroom in a new building. As most of you know, we were on the ground floor in SAMS for the past 4 years. This market we moved over to the C&D Building to the 4th floor in a much larger showroom, and we could not be happier!

We share the C&D Building with some great companies that most of you know very well, like Visual Comfort, Design Legacy, and Distinctive Designs International. The floor plans are very easy to plan your day. There is even a restaurant on the 5th floor that has free buyers breakfast every morning, along with a great selection at lunch. If you stick around until 4, there is beer, wine, appetizers, and desserts served through out the floors.

We are very excited about next market and all of the new goodies we have in store for you! But you will just have to wait to see.. It will be worth it!

If you did not make it to Market this Fall, see our “As Seen At Market” section to see all of the showroom pieces! And if you did make it to Market this Fall, be sure to come back in the Spring! We will be changing the showroom and there will be lots to see!

I will also be posting some other new features that we will be adding. I would love to know your thoughts!

Thanks for reading!

Talk next time!

Trends to expected to see during Fall Market

Hello Designers!

High Point Fall Market is not far away and this year, along with last year, has not been the year for matchy matchy.  Styles are ranging from traditional to modern and fur to metallics, in all different patterns and colors, and possibly in the same room.

Here are a few trends that you would see while walking through Fall Market this October:

1. Glamor – glamor will never go out of style! Adding prints to the inside or outside of furniture with a paired solid or adding a nailhead trim will glamor up your furniture!

2. Custom furniture – custom furniture is always the perfect fit for everyone! You can customize furniture to fit you home, room, and style.

3. Culture – add cultures out side of your own! This will add interest and adventure into your home and furniture.

4. Metallic – metallic fabrics are in And will bring life to any room!

5. Statement dining – a statement dining room if a must have for anyone from a party planner to a couple of two. A great dining table should be surrounded by great dining chairs. Also, adding skirts, monogrammed, or different fabrics to your host and hostess chairs will also make a funny and classy statement.

6. Small furniture – small furniture leaves more space in the room which give an uncluttered appearance. Small furniture is great for small homes, apartments, and studios. You can have beautiful furniture and also be able to move through out your living areas.

7. Vintage furniture – vintage is in style! You can always use old furniture for anything. If you have your grandmothers vintage, ornate sofa with a floral print that is unraveling, no problem! You can pick out your favorite fabric and recover it! Also, if the stain or paint on the ornate wood is pealing or faded, a talented wood worker can restrain or paint the wood and give it a fresh look but with a distressed, vintage look.

8. Pleats – pleats in a skirt are always stunning. They add a great touch to the skirt of you dining chairs or a banquette.

9. Multi functional furniture – storage! Storage ottomans are great for any room. Toys in a child’s room, decorative pillows in a bedroom, or magazines in a living room. Also, day beds are great multifunctional furniture pieces. Great piece for seating and sleeping.

10. Light wood stains – light stains on all furniture is a big trend this year! Fruitwood, creams, and clears are colors that we have seen a lot this year.

Well, I can’t wait to see all of these trends and more this October in High Point! Remember! We have moved our showroom! We are now in the C&D building on the 4th floor.

See you there!

The New Trundle!

Hello Designers!!

So, we recently made a custom platform bed with a trundle!

We are defiantly adding trundles to our catalog!

The bed itself was a queen and the trundle under the bed was a full. It easily rolled in and out by the 2″ hooded ball casters that were under the trundle. This is going to be a great bed for our Designers beach home. Her guest are going to love it!

As for more trundles… A trundle can be added to any King, Queen, and Full platform bed. The trundle will need to be made at least 1 size smaller than the bed. For example; if you would like King platform bed, then your trundle can be a queen, full or twin.  We are unable to make a twin platform bed with a trundle because of the same size. The trundle will not fit properly under the platform bed if so.

These trundles are such a great idea and we cant wait for our Designers to send us more of their designs!

We look forward to building your next trundle!10366240_722287981164851_240071100391383727_n

High Point Spring Furniture Market

Hello Designers!!

We hope all is well!

It has now been about a week and a half since we returned from Spring Market in High Point. This market was a great turn out! We saw many new designers and many familiar designers. We love traveling to High Point for Market to meet new designers that are looking for a custom upholster. Also, we get to see all of the designers that we talk to all year round on the phone and can put faces to a voice.

During this trip to High Point, we were left with a difficult decision to make but I think we made a good one. As of this Fall, our High Point showroom will be located in the C&D building on the corner of West Commerce and South Elm. We will be on the 4th floor in showroom 4K-L. The showroom is a great space and we will be sharing it with Touchwood out of England. They craft hand made case goods and they are a beauty!

We are very excited about our new location and cant wait to have all of our wonderful designers visit!

See you in the Fall!

The New Social Area!

get-attachment (2)Hello Designers!

We have recently been asked to build these round sociables by many designers. They are great for seating many people in any size space and can be dressed up or down depending on your liking’s and the area.

This sociable is designed by designer, Julie Strange, out of Virginia. When it is completed, it will consist of leather, fur and tufting to make a beautiful item for the social area.

The frame is made from Kiln-dried Maple wood and was built in 2 pieces to keep durable. But once the sociable reaches upholstery, it will all be upholstered as 1 piece. This will allow the sociable to be moved very easy and will not have to be “put together”.

Be sure to check back to see the final result!

It is going to be BEAUTIFUL!

Goodbye 2013 and Hello0o 2014!

We have accomplished so much in 2013 and we are sad to see it go. But, 2014 brings a new year which means new goals, new trends, and a New Location!!!

This past year in 2013, LFM has accomplished a great goal of reaching 25 years in business. Within the past 25 years we have gone from a 1 man upholstery shop (yes, I mean just John Lester) to a supplier to designers all over the country and growing.

We plan to start off 2014 by relocating to a bigger and better building. We will have a great showroom space for designers and plenty of warehouse for our shop to grow. This space will improve our production process to keep our company growing for another 25 years.

We hope you have a great New Year and we can’t wait to see you in 2014!

November 18, 2013

New Catalog

The last time LFM created a new catalog was in 2011. This catalog is very traditional and professional looking with a black, leather binder and a gold embossed logo.

The binder is filled with our design studio and all of our products. We have kept this catalog design for as long as we have had a catalog.

But, with technology becoming what it is today, a lot of designers are relying on our website vs. the printed catalog.

But, for the designer who would like a printed catalog, we have come up with a lighter and more modern version of our catalog. We have come up with the idea of having a “magazine” style catalog. It will still have everything from about LFM to every stain sample we offer, but may be lighter and easier to carry. Also, less wasteful.

We would love to know what our designers think about the change. Will it be more useful and easier for you? Please let us know what you think!

See Our New Arrivals at Fall Market

Just a few minutes ago, I was in our upholstery shop looking at our newest item that we have added to our collection! Once I saw it and sat in it, I knew I had to come to my office and tell you about it!!

We are every excited about launching our new arrivals at Fall Market this year! They are great, new styles that everyone is sure to love.

This item is the first to be completed and is beautiful and cool and COMFORTABLE (OMG)! I can not stop with this one. I have nick-named it “The Vampire”, see us in our showroom in High Point and you shall find out why…

SO, to not keep you waiting, we have decided to release the measurements! Good Luck!

The overall dimensions of the item is 33″W x 38″D x 35.5″H (this should give you an idea of what category this item falls in)

The seat height is 20″, the seat depth is 21″ and the seat width is 20″ in the front and 19″ in the back.

Here is the tricky part! The arm width is 6.5″. The arm height is 25.5″ – 23.5″ – 24.5″ (hmm?)

The legs are originally 6″. But because of our awesome upholsters, the upholstery tapers down to a 3″ – 4″ leg.

Wow! We can not wait for you to see it at market! Make sure to stop by the showroom between October 19th and October 24th to see this new arrival and all of the new arrivals that will be there!

These items will be in The Suites at Market Square Building, unit G-2034.

See you then!! 🙂

Fall Furniture Hot List!

Elle Decor Magazine has just published the Hot List for High Point Fall Market!

Author, Katherine Nelson, goes through 6 trends that are a must see this fall. And they are all amazing!

Trend #1: Glamour – Glamour can be captured on furniture is so many different ways! We see glamour as curves, tufting, nailheads, and leather. All have a great shine to them and are very clean, sleek and glamorous!

Trend #2: Metallic Leather – Metallic leather is an eye catcher! It is a beauty to put on any item and will surely make a difference in any design!

Trend #3: Pleats – Pleats are in! Arm pleats, skirt pleats, headboard boarder pleats! Pleats are becoming big, almost as big as tufting.. possibly. Be prepared to see a lot of pleats this market!

Trend #4: Statement Dining Tables – Big object, Big statement! Acrylic is the new maple. There have been and will be a lot of acrylic to be seen. Another statement is craft! The craftier a piece looks the better. Tables that look to be created from something other than… table wood… are a big hit and show major craftsmanship!

Trend #5: Small Spaces – Small items to fit in a small space should not be hidden, make them POP! Although the small corner chair may just be needed to fill the space, add some color! Make that small piece the accent color in the room. It will be just enough to tie the room together.

Trend #6: Green and Gorgeous – Becoming earth friendly is a great deal these days. This market, people will be trying to make a difference with crafty ideas from recycled items.

We can not wait to arrive at market and see all the new trends! Be sure to stop by our showroom in SAMS unit#2034, to see a few of them!

See you there! 🙂

Coming up this High Point Fall Market, we will be hosting and educational seminar where owner, John Lester, will be in the showroom tufting a small ottoman.

But, for a sneak peak, here is a beautiful chair that we reupholstered for a local designer this week. Patti at McKenzie Baker brought this chair by our office when the seat was caved in and had no back. She redesigned the upholstery of the chair to this awesome piece it is now.

The tufting on the inside back of the chair is just a small step to the tufting in headboards and club chairs. But what makes this piece so special is the very detailed, small tufts that were needed to make the chair a “WOW” factor. These tufts take talent and time since they are small and in a small area.

To see how these Lester Furniture tufts our custom upholstered furniture, join us during our seminar this Fall market.

Fall Market Events!

Hello! Long time no see!

I wanted to be sure that you are the first to know about our upcoming seminars!

This past Spring Furniture Market, we held a seminar for designers to come to the showroom and see the owner, John Lester, upholster a frame on site. The frame was already built, assembled, and sprung up so John was able to pad and upholster the chair. The seminar had such a great turn out, we descided to have 2 this market!

On Sunday, October 20th from 1:00pm till 4:00pm, John will be in the showroom showing how Lester Furniture still provided our designers with the original 8 way hand tied springs.

On Tuesday, October 22nd from 1:00pm till 4:00pm, John will be tufting an ottoman to show the luxurious tufts that are so popular these days.

Come see us at unit G2034 in the Suites at Market Square building. We cant wait!

Made In America!

Hello Bloggers!

In our office today, Sharee and I are snacking on some locally grown blueberries that taste amazing (supplied by Ivanhoe Blueberry Farms)!

So I wanted to explain how important local and “Made in America” products are to us.

Lester Furniture as always been an American Made company (for all 25 years of being in operation). High Point Furniture Market honors Made in America products with a showroom to showcase the manufacturers. We are proud to be part of that showroom.

We believe that the quality of our work can not be beat. Based off of the “Old Time” way of doing things, with a new technology twist, our products are known for their strength and design.

Our construction in a nut shell is :

  • Kiln Dried Maple Wood Frames
  • Original 8 Way Hand Tied
  • Hand Cut and Built By Master Craftsman
  • Carefully Shipped To You To Enjoy!

We encourage you to support your local farmers and your Made in America companies as we do. There are companies all around the world with GREAT products, but nothing is closer to the heart than home. 🙂

Happy Blogging, and Snacking!

High Point Presentation

48062_10151428035916687_1864304181_nHello Designers!

Sorry it has been a while since the last blog. We are busy busy here at Lester Furniture, which is great!

I wanted to let you all know that the presentation John Lester did at this April at Market was a huge hit! So huge, that we have decided to have another one next market!!!

On Sunday April 21st, John Lester set up his work station in our showroom and displayed a chair frame. The frame was built, assembled, and sprung up in advance for time and noise purposes.

Through out the day, John upholstered the chair (taking breaks every so often to make sure he did not upholster to fast). By Sunday afternoon, the showroom was filled with designers who were excited to learn about our upholstery process.

So many designers asked if we were having another presentation that week.. Which is why we decided to have this event again in the Fall!

Congratulations to Patti Frost at Master’s Design, who won the finished chair!

High Point Furniture Market Count Down!

High Point Furniture Market is right around the corner!

We are SO excited to be able to show our designers and future clients how our custom furniture is upholstered. On Sunday, April 21st; in 9 days; John Lester will be in our showroom to provide a special presentation for you. We will prepare a frame to be upholstered in advance and John will then upholster the frame this day.

This is a great opportunity for designers to see the craftsmanship that goes into each piece of furniture and also to ask questions and learn about our company.

The Lester Furniture showroom is located in Suites at Market Square, unit G2034.

We hope to see all of you there! And don’t forget your business card! You may have a chance to WIN the finished upholstered product!

An Inside Look (Part 3) DONE!

On January 25th and March 8th, I wrote to you about the process these dining room chairs have gone through. And now, they are finished!!!

The chairs look beautiful and show how custom we can really be. We have heard that the draperies in this room are the same color as the cording on the chair. There will also be paintings with similar colors.

We will try to post pictures of the finished room. But we really enjoyed making and helping design these chairs.

They are Beautiful!!! 🙂get-attachment.aspx

An Inside Look (part 2)

imageHello Again!!

An inside look started with the frame for these dining chairs on the January 25th blog.

Well, we received the fabric for the dining room chairs that was on back order. But the client loved the fabric so much, she decided the wait was worth it.

Photos of the frame are on the January 25th blog, but here is a photo of the beautiful fabric! Once the frame is built and all fabric is received, our cutting and sewing department will start their process of the upholstery.

You can compare the shapes of the sewn fabric to the frame and it is a perfect match! But our sewing department will not sew all the fabric. They have cut and sewn the insides of the chair that will be able to slip onto the dining chairs, called the “Sock On” effect. Our cutting department will also cut the outside of the chair for the upholsterer to hand upholster the fabric to the chair. This will leave a tight, finished, and flawless look to the chairs.

These dining room chairs are expected to go home to the client next week. And YES! We will post photos of the finished chairs and we can’t wait to see them!

Education Week!

Here in the beach town of Wilmington North Carolina, we have two colleges. One being UNC Wilmington and another Cape Fear Community College, named after the Cape Fear river that runs through downtown Wilmington.

Cape Fear Community College has become  one of the valuable community colleges and its size is expanding each semester. At Cape Fear, there is an Interior Design Department with a range of classes that students are required to go through.

The principles and Elements of Design II and Materials Calc/Interior Design classes came to our office this Tuesday, February 19th, to see what the process of upholstered furniture is about. The class started in the office with John, Sharee, and Nicole. We decided to start in the office because this is where all orders start. We showed them photos of custom orders and standard orders and the paper work that goes along with each order. This showed them how detailed these orders really are and that each order is truly different.

They then followed John into the showroom, with Nicole tagging alone for any question because of the large class.  The students were then able to sit on a few showroom pieces and see the finished product.

Once into the shop area, we started the tour in the frame shop, then to spring up, cushions, cutting and sewing, and ended with upholstery. Our craftsmen continued  their work so the students were able to see all of the components and work that is put into each piece.

One student commented, “I will never take sitting on a sofa for granted anymore”.

All of the students were very interested in everything they had seen and seemed to truly enjoy the art of Interior Design.

We allow these classes to come in every year. The first year students that came this week will be second year students next year and will get the experience all over again. This will allow them to see additions we have made to our company and new trends we have found.

A future goal LFM has is to have more Interior Design Programs involved in this process. It is an experience that they will not forget as they become a professional Interior Designer. They will also understand the detail in every order, helping them with their career.

High Point Furniture Market

High Point Furniture Market is a HUGE showcase for home decor exhibitors to show their products twice a year. Lester Furniture has been an exhibitor for many years and it has become so much fun to plan, join, and experience market.

Here, we will be giving you a FIRST look at what is to come at our 25 year celebration during our High Point Furniture Market visit in 2013!

We will be in our showroom Saturday April 20th – Thursday April 25th for designers to visit, relax, and learn more about Lester Furniture.

On Sunday April 21st, we will be holding a 25 year celebration Educational Event and Giveaway! Starting at 9am, John Lester (President of Lester Furniture) will start upholstering a sprung-up frame. The maple frame will be built and sprung-up in advance for time purposes. On Sunday, the inside of the frame will be padded and then upholstered with a solid fabric.

We will ask all the designers that stop by to bring a business card. We will be placing these business cards in a Giveaway Bowl to be drawn from. At the end of the day, the business card that is drawn will be the winner of the upholstered piece and will be able to take home with them at the end of market week.

We are very excited to show designers how Lester Furniture builds and upholsters our product. We hope to see you there!!

Bedroom Beauty!

2013-01-31_15-16-23_226The headboard featured is a beautiful design by McKenzie Baker here in Wilmington, NC. It was recently installed into her clients home who was going for a masculine, tailored look for the bedroom. This headboard is a wall mounted headboard with no legs.

This is just one of the many headboards we build. We can also turn your free standing headboard into a full bed with side-rails and a foot-board. Then add your custom style to it with tufting, nail heads, ect.!

The nail heads add so much to a headboard which is a 2013 trend! We are starting to see nail heads on almost every piece of furniture we build. They add an extra shine to the look! In our design center is a chart of all the nail heads we offer. There are almost all possible styles and colors for you to choose from.

An Inside Look

get-attachment.aspxAs mentioned in the previous blog, we build a lot of custom furniture. This week, our frame shop built these beautiful dining room chairs that will soon be upholstered. But, for you, we wanted to show an inside look at what is underneath the fabric.

This design started when a local designer came to our office with a picture from a magazine. We discovered that she had no dimensions for this chair. So while she was in our office we showed the picture to our craftsmen, who confirmed that the chairs were able to be built.

The next step was to find the dimensions for these chairs. The designer and client sat in our showroom dining room chairs that were in our office and plant. The showroom chairs helped them decided how they wanted these chairs to sit and the size. Problem solved!

The frame shop then based the dimensions off of the showroom chair that the client liked and based the design off of the picture.

We can not wait to show you the finished product! Stay tuned to see more pictures that we will be posting of these beautiful chairs!

Welcome to the Lester Furniture Mfg,. Inc. Blog!

We hope that the New Year is treating you well, as it is for us. While here, please explore the remainder of our website. You will find all items in our catalog, a design center for custom pieces, and our sales items (that are ready to ship within 5-7 business days).

Feel free to read our “About” page, but here is a brief summery of what you will find. Lester Furniture Mfg. was created in 1988 by owner, John Lester. He grow up learning about upholstery from members of his family. He has now applied that knowledge to the high-end upholstery that we know of today.

Mr. Lester keeps our master craftsmen in check by keeping the wonderful “Old Fashion” way of doing things, while keeping up-to-date on technology and style.

Our “Old Fashion-ness” is our construction. Lester frames are made only from kiln dried maple wood that we guarantee you will enjoy with our life-time warranty. The frames are then originally 8-way hand tied and upholstered. Our standard cushion, known as other upholsterers best upgrade, is spring down seat cushions and 75/25 down blend back cushions.

Lester Furniture has kept our rolled and English arm styles from the beginning. These styles range from big to small and have the comfortable, curl-up in your chair feeling.  But, we are updating our styles to the clean, straight line look for our futuristic, young at heart designers. Having both ends of this style spectrum, we are able to have a huge selection and satisfy all designers and their clients.

If you and your client happen to not find an item of ours that is visually appealing, we have another option for you. YOUR OWN CUSTOM DESIGN! Send us a sketch, photo, and /or dimensions. We will then consult with our mast craftsmen to find out if, how, and when we can create your custom design.

Now that you know everything about us, please like our pages on Facebook, Houzz, and Twitter so we can learn more about you!

Last thought is our goal for this blog. We will post to keep designer up-to-date on what is going on at Lester Furniture. We would like to constantly update you on our new items. Also, we will post upcoming events and results from our events.

We hope you enjoyed the First Lester Furniture Mfg., Inc. blog! Feel free to comment or contact us. We would love to know what you think!
